SINUS SURGERY

Sinus surgery is a procedure that aims to open the pathways of the sinuses and clear any blockages. The reason for sinus surgery can be due to sinusitis, which is inflammation of the tissue lining the sinuses. More commonly referred to as rhinosinusitis or a sinus infection, this inflammation can be caused by allergies, respiratory tract infections, nasal polyps, and other medical conditions such as cystic fibrosis.

Treating Sinus Infections
In addition to routine and complex surgery options, we are also able to offer balloon sinuplasty when appropriate.

Balloon Sinuplasty

Balloon sinuplasty is a type of endoscopic nasal surgery that uses small balloon catheters to drain the large nasal sinuses. It is commonly used to treat cases of severe rhinosinusitis or sinus inflammation and blockage in the nose. Although this surgery is fairly new, it is a considerably safe and effective procedure, and approved by the FDA. Most people can return to normal activities after 24-48 hours of the surgery. It is usually advisable for an individual to avoid strenuous activity for at least one week after surgery.

Benefits of balloon sinuplasty over traditional sinus surgeries:

– Faster recovery time
– Lower risk of bleeding
– Reduced need for operative and post-operative pain medications
– Reduced risk of post-operative infection
– Reduced risk of continued inflammation or scarring
