What comes to mind when you hear “Local ENT”? Most would say sinus complications, or frequent ear infections unless you personally have experience with other specific issues with the ear, nose, and throat areas. The purpose of this article is to explore exactly what an ENT does and discuss the services and treatment plans offered.
What is an ENT?
ENT stands for Ear, Nose & Throat. An ENT, also called an otolaryngologist, is a medical professional whose surgical subspecialties deal with a closely connected system of tubes and passages that make up your ear, nose, and throat areas of the body. An Otolaryngologist will also be able to address any issues with the head and neck and needed surgeries stemming from these issues.
What services do an ENT provide?
There are many services that all ENT’s provide and some that provide more specialized procedures. At Camellia ENT, we offer some very unique treatment options that set us apart. We will explore some of these options below.
Sinus complications are an extremely common reason for ENT visits. Your ENT will work with you to resolve your recurring problems through means of allergy testing, immunotherapy, environmental changes, over the counter medications and more. If all other options of resolving sinus issues do not bring relief, or if your situation is more severe, sinus surgery may be necessary. Sinus surgery is a procedure that opens the sinus pathways and clears any blockages. Camellia ENT also offers Balloon Sinuplasty which is a type of endoscopic nasal surgery that uses a small balloon to drain the large nasal sinuses. This newer method allows for much quicker recovery time, lower risk of bleeding, reduced risk of infection or continued inflammation or scarring and more.
Your ENT can do an ultrasound and/or a biopsy to discover if there is a tumor in your thyroid area. If so, thyroid surgery may become necessary to rule out thyroid cancer as well as treat Grave’s disease, recurrent thyroid cysts, or symptomatic thyroid nodules. Surgery depends on your particular results and will depend on the tumor itself. Thyroid surgery is generally safe with less than 2% risk of serious complications.
Camellia ENT offers a full Audiology department as well as a broad spectrum of ear surgery. Ear Surgery or Otoplasty is meant to improve the shape, position, or size of the ears to correct defects in the overall ear structure. Misshapen ears can occur due to injury or other symptoms such as hearing loss. Some surgery options include but are not limited to: repairing a perforated eardrum, bone anchored hearing aids, and reconstructing the bones of hearing,
A Cochlear implant is a small electronic device that is situated behind the ear along with an internal portion placed under the skin that allows a deaf or severely hard-of-hearing person to hear. There are several cancers of the head and neck with a variety of symptoms including but not limited to ear pain, pain when swallowing, trouble hearing, oral cavities, nasal cavities, trouble breathing, ringing in the ears, and more. Treatment is dependent upon the location of the tumor, the stage of cancer and overall health. Head and Neck Cancer Surgery is meant to remove the cancer and surrounding tissues.

TORS is a minimally invasive option for cancer treatment in the deeper regions of the throat. Our very own Dr. White is the only surgeon in the region credentialed to use the robot and provide this advanced cancer treatment option. Vocal Cord Paralysis, or the inability to move your vocal cords properly, can be caused by many things such as tumors, infections, injuries, etc. When this happens, rehabilitation of the vocal cords, or even surgery may become necessary to restore their function. Some treatment options we offer include: voice therapy, tracheotomy and surgery, which typically involves using a laser to make a cut within a vocal cord or surgery options to make the cords closer to each other.
Vivaer Nasal Airway Remodeling
If you are suffering from nasal airway obstruction making it difficult to breathe through the nose but are not fond of the idea of surgery or ongoing medications to manage the issue, Camellia ENT now offers an alternative: vivaer nasal airway reconstruction. This is a non-invasive solution that gently reshapes the nasal valve area. Click here to learn more and see if you are a good candidate for this treatment option!
As you can see, an ENT offers much more than just sinus complication solutions. If you are suffering from any of the items listed above, do not hesitate to contact Camellia ENT for your consultation today. We would be happy to help you or a loved one back to optimal ear, nose, and throat health!
